Pair of New York mahogany Klismos slip seat side chairs (1825)

Pair of New York Klismos slip seat side chairs in mahogany and figured mahogany veneers. The chairs have a curved and figured veneer applied crest rail with scrolled edge over a curved and figured veneered horizontal back rail morticed between the upper back posts. The back posts continue down to raked rear legs, and the sabre front legs are joined with tenon joints to the front rail and side rails. Separate conforming slip seats are upholstered with horse hair fill and finished in a striped fabric.

Condition: This pair of chairs is overall in good original condition. The recently upholstered seats have some slight marks (see photos for details). Marks and scratches throughout as expected for chairs of this age. Wear commensurate with age and use.
