English Davenport Tea House pattern covered serving dish (c. 1800-25)

Davenport cobalt blue pearlware decorated with a “Willow Tea House” transfer print. The square serving dish features dimpled corners and is fitted with a domed cover mounted with a scroll finial. The transfer print is on the cover and interior of the dish and features a border decoration incorporating a moth-butterfly on each of the four sides of the rim, as seen on other examples of impressed marked Davenport pearlware. This signature element was drawn directly from Chinese export examples. 

Davenport & Co was founded in 1794. and continued under family management until 1887, with its principle factory in Longport, Staffordshire, England.

Condition: Very good overall condition. There is a crack on one corner of the lid but is stabilized. Wear commensurate with age and use.
