Boston bell metal lemon top andirons with matching fire tools (c. 1790)
Pair of cast bell metal brass lemon top andirons with matching fire tools. The andirons feature oval lemon finials which sit on a Doric column with plinth, and the cast arched legs with spurs rest on finely formed slipper pad feet. The crossing between the feet is peened with a hand threaded iron rod which attaches to a fixed nut in the lemon finial at the upper end and is forged through to the forged iron log rest. The miniature lemon top log stop log rest is peened into the log rest 3" behind the fire dog. The andirons are paired with matching fire tools, consisting of a forged iron shovel and forged iron fire tongs with bell metal lemon finial topped handles.
