American post impressionist bird's eye view landscape of a lush green central valley on the Island of Crete. Gouache on paper, mounted on board. The work is framed in a traditional pale gold leafed cove molding with non-glare, UV filtering glass.  

Flory was born in Michigan in 1919 and is a self taught artist. His drawings of the front lines of the Pacific campaign in WWII were published in Life Magazine. After the war, he studied at the Art Students League NYC, School of Art NYC, Institute d'Arte in Florence, and the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. By the mid 1950's Flory was active in NYC & Monhegan Island, Maine. He traveled throughout the 1960's & 70's in Europe and Hawaii. 

His works are in the permanent collections of: National Gallery of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, NYC, Brooklyn Museum of Art. Flory is listed in the compendium "Who Was Who in American Art" by Peter Hastings Falk.
