Framed American needle work sampler by Anna Woodbury (1839)
American marking sampler, featuring five sample alphabets and a numerical progression in contrasting styles and stitch. The sampler was stitched by Anna Woodbury, born 1839, and assisted by instructor Cynthia Hanson, born Cumberland, Maine in 1804. Archival mount and framed in a period Bird’s Eye maple beveled molding with gilt bezel.
American, Maine, 1848-65.
Condition: Some marks and stains to the linen ground, but the embroidery is sharp and has retained its color. Wear commensurate with age and use.
