Aesthetic Movement bamboo easel (c. 1890)
Bamboo tripod easel in the Aesthetic taste with a painted Japanese lacquer panel of a bird on a branch, surrounded by leaves. The front two legs are joined by a series of horizontal bars, as well as a projecting horizontal bar to support artwork. The rear supporting leg slots through a bar near the top of the frame, and is fit with a chain for both stabilization and ease for keeping all components together when moving or stored flat. The tops of the front two legs and the ends of the projecting artwork support are capped with brass. One side of the artwork support has an attached brass finial, the other side is missing.
New York or London, circa 1890.
Condition: Easel is in good original condition. One decorative finial is missing. Wear commensurate with age and use.
