Pair of Chippendale style ladder back arm chairs (c. 1930-40)
Pair of Academic Revival Chippendale solid mahogany armchairs with exceptional pierced and carved ladder back rails. The over rail upholstered saddle seat is supported by molding carved square legs which are joined by an “H” stretcher. The shaped elbow rests, with scrolled knuckle arm terminals, are supported by a sloping arm brackets, morticed into the seat side rails.
American, Academic Revival, 1930-40.
Condition: Frames have been re-glued, surfaces cleaned & finished in shellac. Seats have been reupholstered with silk fabric and horse hair fill. Both upholstery and frames have light marks throughout. Wear commensurate with age and use.
