Chinese black leather camphor wood trunk (1830)
China trade brass bound black leather covered camphor wood trunk. The top and case are framed by brass corner mounts and brass tacking with a reserve of brass tacking on the center of the lid. The case is fitted with heavy cast brass bail handles with rosette back plates and a brass escutcheon lock plate. The lock is the original after a European model. A faded paper label on the interior is attributed to the workshop of Ashie or Ashoe. (For reference, see: The China Trade by Carl Crossman)
