American oil on academy board summertime study of a clapboard house (c. 1935)
American oil on academy board summertime study of a clapboard house. The composition centers on a well pump in the yard, and a large tree branch arches in from the left side of the frame, reaching towards the house. We are given a truncated view of the house itself, with its gray painted siding and a single green painted window shutter on the right edge of the frame. Sunlight dapples across the lawn in the foreground, with long, sharp edged shadows hinting at the roofline of the house. The painting is framed in a painted pine bevel cut molding.
Wisconsin, circa 1935.
