Pair of copperplate engravings by Piranesi printed on hand laid paper. The views are of the Greek temple complex at Paestum, Italy, and these works were the last series completed before his death. Piranesi was a talented product of the enlightenment as an artist, architect, archeologist, designer, collector and dealer in prints and antiquities, promoting Ancient Roman accomplishments. The unique drama and scale of his works led to his election as a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in England in 1757, and he was Knighted by the Pope in 1765.
