Etching printed on paper of boats moored at a quay, titled "Cabanes de pecheurs sur les cotes d'Italie" or "Fisherman's huts on the coast of Italy". Appian was born 1818 in the South of France, studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Lyon, then in Paris under the tutorship of Corot & Daubigny. He became a leading artist of the Barbizon School, employing several media, chiefly oil on canvas, etching, and charcoal. Appian won numerous gold metal awards at international exhibitions throughout his career, and his works can be found in dozens of museums in France, United Kingdom and America.
