Unsigned Navajo gouache on paper of a hunter with birds (c. 1940)
Unsigned gouache watercolor on paper of Native American hunter with birds, in the style of Harrison Begay. The hunter is centered at the bottom of the frame and is kneeling behind a small mound or rock outcropping. He is poised with a bow and arrow and is aiming skyward at the passing birds. A lone arrow on the left of the frame is returning to the earth, indicating it did not meet its mark. The top left corner of the composition is framed by two lines in different shades of blue which extend partially down the left side and top of the frame. Also visible in the top left is a dark cloud with rain beginning to fall. Framed and matted with rag board and a stained burl veneer frame.
Native American, Navajo, circa 1940.
