Pair of American mahogany upholstered slip seat gondola chairs (1830-35)
Pair of American Neoclassic mahogany and figured mahogany veneered slip seat gondola chairs in the French Restoration taste. The boxed slip seat is fitted to a bowed mahogany front seat frame on pseudo sabre front legs and dramatically raked rear legs. The chair back side rails slope upward from the seat frame to a raised & scrolled crest rail. Below the crest rail, a concave vasiform splat extends down to the back seat rail. After the design published by Messenger & Co. Paris, France.

Condition: The chair frames have been restored and refinished, and the slip seats have been newly reupholstered. Wear commensurate with age and use.
