Romance of the Sea by Leonid Gechtoff, 1937
Oil on board seascape titled "Romance of the Sea". The artist was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1883. After immigrating to Cairo in 1912, his travels took him to Holland, Indonesia, and Manila, before settling down in with extended family in Philadelphia in 1921. He became a citizen and exhibited successfully in Philadelphia during the 1920's & 30's, featuring his signature blend of expressionism and post-impressionism.
