Japanese Ikebana Hanaire form split bamboo basket (1900-1930)
Japanese hand woven split bamboo Ikebana Hanaire form basket. The basket has a flared and diagonally wrapped split bamboo rim which rests above a waisted neck and narrow shoulder with an exposed band of bamboo stays, framed by the same thin split bamboo technique as used above on the flared rim. The body of the basket has a diagonal weave interrupted by two fine strands of split bamboo at 1/2" intervals. The bottom 1-3/4" of the basket repeats the fine split bamboo weave used at the rim and shoulder of the basket, terminating in a square base.
