Watercolor of a New England shoreline scene by Melbourne Havelock Hardwick (c. 1890)
An accomplished shoreline landscape in watercolor on laid paper. The work is presented float mounted on archival mat in a painted molding under UV filtering glass.
Melbourne Havelock Hardwick is known for his seascapes, landscapes, and genre paintings. He studied in Boston and Europe, and is listed in the standard art references as exhibiting at the Boston Arts Club, as well as the Pennsylvania Academy of Art. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club in 1907, and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. His work can be seen in the permanent collection of the Cigna Museum in Philadelphia, the Whistler House Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts, and at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
