English Georgian mahogany upholstered leather lolling chair (c. 1770)
English Georgian mahogany lolling chair upholstered with saddle brown leather. The upholstered back panel has a serpentine crest rail above an upholstered seat. The elbow rests are upholstered and supported by sloping arm brackets. The chair rests on square legs, with boldly raked rear legs which are joined by an “H” stretcher. The frame has been upholstered with linen webbing, dacron wrapped horse hair, and covered in a saddle tan leather (original fill was a combination of horse hair and straw with cotton batting).

Condition: Mahogany leg and arm supports have been surface cleaned and polished in shellac. Later tacking holes have been filled. Arm and leg joints and been cleaned and re-glued and rear corner blocks have been replaced. Nailers have been repaired, webbing has been replaced, and chair has been reupholstered in saddle brown leather with brass tacking.
