Chinese shaped black lacquer tray with gilt decoration (c. 1825)
Shaped black lacquer wood tray with gilt decoration. At the center of the design, three figures, one seated and two standing, are positioned in front of two small structures in a garden setting. A repeating and largely symmetrical floral design encircles the rim and the four inner corners of the tray.
China, made for the Western trade, circa 1820.
Condition: The tray shows signs of heavy wear and fading to the lacquer and the gilt decoration. The lacquer also exhibits extensive crazing throughout. See photos for details. Wear commensurate with age and use.
