Pair of French Neoclassical upholstered seat side chairs (c. 1795-1810)
Pair of French Neoclassical upholstered seat side chairs. The chairs are defined by sabre front and raked rear legs which support an upholstered boxed seat. The splayed upper leg posts are joined by a lower back rail and dramatically carved cut crest rail. The lower back rail and crest rail are joined by a carved & pierced back splat in a Neoclassical motif. The back splat centers on a floral and urn carved decoration.
French, Directoire Period, circa 1795-1810.
Condition: The seats have been newly upholstered and the joints have been re-glued for stability. Wear commensurate with age and use.
