American Neoclassic bird's eye maple four drawer chest (c. 1820)
American Neoclassic four drawer chest in the French Restoration taste. The case employs both solid and veneered bird’s-eye maple in choice selection of overall pattern. The top is matched bird’s maple over a full width blind top drawer projecting over the three lower drawers and blind apron drawer. The lower three drawers, with turned mushroom knobs, are flanked by columns on a turret above ball feet. The drawers have cherry sides, poplar bottoms and pine back panels. The sides of the case are counter veneered in birds-eye maple on white pine. The top drawer has an English replacement lock. The other drawers have their original French locks.
