Blue and White Canton Teapot Stand (c. 1800-50)
Blue and White porcelain teapot stand in a mulberry leaf shape. Canton, present day Guangzhou, is the capital city of the province of Guangdong in Southern China. Sericulture has been traditionally important in this region of China, and that might perhaps explain adopting this leaf form as part of the Blue and White pattern. The quality of painting as well as the porcelain are very good. The bottom of the stand is unglazed and not smooth with tiny black iron spots appearing in the clay bottom which is a very good sign of age.
China, Canton, circa 1800-1850.
