English reticulated brass fire fender with lion's paw feet (c. 1810)

Brass and steel fire fender with a delicately pierced pattern of rhythmically spaced arcs between brass moldings. The fender is supported by two cast brass lion’s paw feet and rear brackets. The back half of the steel floor (or ash tray) of the fender is angled to the hearth. The reserve at the corners of the tray are defined by iron moldings for use as tool rests. The steel base has cracks and wear as to be expected from use and a piece of this age.
