Japanese cast bronze statue of a Bodhisattva (1780-1800)
Cast bronze statue of a half draped figure of the standing Bodhisattva on a lotus plinth, with a removable flaming nimbus surrounding the head. The figure holds a lotus, the symbol of purity and worldly detachment, in their raised left hand, with the right hand at their side, palm forward in a blessing. The verticality of the figure is softened by a flowing scarf, flaring outward at their feet. The figure is presented with its original patination.
Japan, late 18th century.
