The Postern & The Boulder Wall by Albert Winslow Barker (1930's)
Pair of American lithographic landscape studies by Albert Winslow Barker. The works are titled "The Postern" (edition of 50) & "The Boulder Wall" (numbered 50/76). Barker was born in Chicago in 1874 and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1890 to 1895. His talent was evident early on, and while still in studies in 1993, the Academy sent two of his charcoal drawings to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Barker was colorblind and gravitated towards charcoal drawing, which could account for the deeply luminous tonal range he achieved in these works. Both pieces are archival mounted and fitted in painted hardwood frames.
